The manuscript
- The manuscript must be original and unpublished. It cannot have been published through any printed or digital medium at the time of submission to Areté, nor be under evaluation or publication process by any other journal.
- The manuscript must be the result of a completed or ongoing research that advances the understanding of the studied phenomenon. It must also have the necessary theoretical support and explicitly and rigorously show the methodology applied in the study.
- The reception of the manuscript under no circumstances implies a commitment to publication by Areté.
- The content of the articles will be the sole responsibility of their authors.
Preparation of the manuscript. The text of the manuscript must be prepared using Microsoft Word (extension .doc or .docx), in Spanish or Portuguese.
- The manuscript must be prepared using the Areté article template.
- The manuscript must be written on Letter size paper with 3 cm margins on each side.
- The title of the article must have a maximum of 15 words. It is written centered with Lato Medium font size 14 points. The rest of the titles must be aligned to the left in Open Sans Light font. The size of each section and the numbering format are indicated in Table 1. Table 1. Title formats Header Font, Size, and Style Article title Lato Medium 14 points, centered, uppercase Title in English Lato Light 12 points, centered, uppercase 1st level Open Sans Light 12 points, Small Caps, numbered 2nd level Open Sans Light 11 points, 3rd level Open Sans Light 11 points, italic 4th level Open Sans Light 10 points.
- The maximum number of authors in an article is four. Each author must be identified with their name, affiliation institution, email, and ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor Identification). If you do not have an ORCID, you can register for free at https://orcid.org/.
- The article must have an abstract in Spanish and English when the work is in Spanish. If the manuscript is in Portuguese, the abstract must be written in three languages: Portuguese, Spanish, and English. The structure is suggested: brief introduction with objectives; method, results, and conclusions/recommendations. A maximum of 200 words should be used in the abstract. The text of the abstract is a single paragraph, written in Times New Roman 12, single-spaced, justified, with a 0-point space before and a 6-point space after. No additional space is required after the abstract.
- The abstract must be accompanied by five (5) keywords (Palavras-chave/Keywords). It is recommended to use the ERIC, UNESCO, or IRESIE Controlled Vocabulary thesauri. Preferably, the keywords should be different from those in the article title.
- The text of the manuscript is written in Times New Roman 12 font, single-spaced. Paragraph format with a special first-line indent of 1.25 cm. Use a 0-point space before and a 6-point space after. No additional space is required after each paragraph.
- The length should be between 15 and 25 pages, including figures, which should be placed in the text where they are to be published. The necessary mathematical symbols should be written with the Word equation editor. It is important not to change the character set, especially avoiding the use of the "Symbol" type or similar.
- The structure of the research article is defined by the author, but Areté's editorial policy considers it essential that every manuscript contains the following sections: Introduction (What was studied?), Method or Research Procedure (How was it studied?), Results (What were the findings?), Conclusions (What do the results mean?), and References.
- The body of the article must contain all the necessary information for its understanding. Only if strictly necessary will appendices be included, which will be placed after the references.
- If necessary, footnotes will be inserted numerically and consecutively, with superscript Arabic numerals. When they coincide with a punctuation mark, they will precede it. The text of the footnote should be written in Times New Roman, size 10, single-spaced, justified. Minimizing their use is appreciated.
- To highlight words or phrases in the text, use only italics.
- Illustrations, graphs, and tables should be placed in the text where they are to be published. If possible, the "captions" will be written within a Word "text box" (without borders) that will be "grouped" with the reference image. They should be numbered using: Figure 1, Table 2, Graph 3. written in Times New Roman 12, in italics with a 6-point space before and a 6-point space after.
- All elements within the table will be in Times New Roman 10, aligning the variable values by row to the left and centering the variable values by column. The values that the variables take will be centered. The borders will be 1 point in size. The line spacing in the table is single, with no spaces before or after. Tables must be written in the text, they cannot be images.
- The quality of the images included in the article must be taken care of, they must be in JPG format and their size must not be larger than 12 x 17 cm. Images are not sent separately, only in the text of the article.
- For mathematical expressions, the equation editor should be used and identified with numbers in parentheses and aligned to the right margin.
- The author must consider the international nature of the journal and provide the necessary information for readers from other countries to understand local aspects of their research. For example, if the educational system of their country is discussed, the levels that comprise it and the normal age of students at the grade or level where the research is conducted should be indicated, allowing comparison with other educational systems.
- All sources cited or mentioned in the body of the article must be clearly identified following the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition standards. The self-citation rate must be less than 10% of the total references.
- If necessary, an Acknowledgments section can be included. It is an optional section where people, institutions, or entities that provided support for the research are mentioned. If financial support was received to conduct the research, it is mandatory to indicate it in this section.
- The bibliographic references that appear in the body of the manuscript will be ordered at the end of the work in alphabetical order. The font type should be Times New Roman 12, justified alignment, hanging indent 1 cm, with a 0-point space before and a 3-point space after. The APA style specifications should be used. In the case of electronic references, care should be taken that the links are active. - Manuscripts must have at least 15 references from articles published in recognized and indexed research journals. 60% of the sources included in the reference list must belong to mainstream journals (Scielo, Scopus, or Web of Science). Authors are encouraged to use both Spanish and English publications.
- At the end of the article, a mini curriculum of the author(s) should be included. It is suggested to include academic degree(s), institution(s) to which they belong, place of residence, title of recent publications. The mini curriculum should not exceed 150 words, please do not exceed this number of words.
Submission of the manuscript.
- All authors must register in the Areté OJS (http://saber.ucv.ve/ojs/index.php/rev_arete/index).
- The article must be submitted through the journal's platform in the SaberUCV Repository. Submissions can also be made by email to revista.arete@ucv.ve or revista.areteucv@gmail.com. Submitting the article via email does not exempt authors from registering in the Areté OJS.
- Two versions of the article must be submitted, one fully identified and the other without any identification (blind version).
- Along with the article, in a separate file, a letter signed by the author(s) must be sent declaring: the originality of the manuscript, that it is not under evaluation in another journal and will not be submitted to another journal while under evaluation in Areté. the transfer of rights for Areté to be the first to publish it. responsibility for the content of the manuscript and certification that it is entirely intellectual production, as well as that data and texts taken from published documents by other authors are properly referenced in citations and indicated in the references at the end of the document. the commitment to modify the article when the Editorial Committee points out substantive and formal observations.
- By submitting their manuscripts, the author(s) declare(s) to adhere to the guidelines and editorial policy of Areté.
Evaluation of the manuscript. The received manuscripts will undergo an anonymous evaluation process divided into four phases. This process takes, on average, between two and three months, depending on the number of manuscripts received and the speed of the reviewers in issuing their responses.
- Phase 1. It begins upon receiving the manuscript and aims to verify compliance with all the formal requirements mentioned above. If all formal aspects are met, an acknowledgment email is sent to the author(s). Otherwise, an email is sent to the authors indicating the aspects to be modified and that the evaluation process will begin when the new version is submitted.
- Phase 2. The manuscript is reviewed by the editor with plagiarism detection software. If the program shows a high percentage of similarity (more than 30%) with other published articles (even if by the same author), the manuscript will be rejected and returned to its authors.
- Phase 3. The Editorial Committee reviews the manuscript to verify that it fits the journal's profile. This evaluation considers whether the manuscript meets the basic requirements of the academic genre and the thematic field of the journal. If the response is positive, the article moves to the next evaluation stage. The author will receive an email indicating that the manuscript has passed to the reviewers' evaluation process. Otherwise, an email will be sent to the author indicating why it does not proceed to the next phase.
- Phase 4. The article is sent to three reviewers, maintaining the anonymity of the author and the reviewers (double-blind system). The reviewers will be external to the Editorial Committee and from an institution different from the author's affiliation. At least one of the reviewers will be from a country different from the author.
- Based on the reviewers' opinions, the Editorial Committee will decide whether the article is: (a) publishable without modifications, (b) publishable with minor modifications, therefore not requiring a new review. (c) publishable with major modifications, consequently, the new version submitted by the author will be subject to a new review. (d) not publishable. The Editorial Committee's decision will be sent via email to the author(s).
- In cases (b) and (c) of the previous point, the author will receive a communication with all the reviewers' observations. If the decision on the article is publishable with minor modifications, the author(s) must submit the new version within a maximum of 20 days. If major modifications are recommended, the new version of the article must be submitted to Areté within a maximum of 60 days. In either of these two situations, the author(s) must indicate to Areté if they are interested in submitting a new version of their article within a maximum of five days after the decision on the article is sent.
- Once approved by the Editorial Committee, the article will be published within a maximum of 6 months.
- The final decision issued by the Editorial Committee on the article is unappealable.
- With prior consultation with the author(s), the Editorial Board may introduce the necessary modifications in form, length, and style.
To facilitate the identification of articles, Areté will use Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Authors must cover the DOI costs.
If necessary, Areté may request collaboration from the authors of approved articles to cover marking or indexing costs. This collaboration is not a charge for publishing or article processing.
Those who publish in Areté may not submit other works for consideration by this publication for a period of no less than one (1) year.
Any unforeseen matters in these guidelines will be resolved by the Editorial Board.
