Form and preparation of manuscripts

Article Submission

The author must submit the original manuscript accompanied by a cover letter signed by all authors, certifying their contribution to the design, execution, analysis, interpretation of data, drafting, and critical review of the article. It must be declared that the work has not been published or simultaneously submitted to another journal. The order of the authors, the corresponding author (with address, email, and ORCID number), and any conflict of interest or funding source must be indicated.

Correspondence should be addressed to the Anales Venezolanos de Nutrición Journal at analesrevista@fundacionbengoa.org.

Peer Review System

All original articles are subject to external peer review by at least three experts in the subject area. Reviews are also evaluated by specialists. The editorial decision is based on the recommendations of the reviewers and the approval of the Editorial Committee. Authors will receive comments and suggestions for modifications and must respond within a reasonable time with a letter detailing the changes made or justifying those not accepted.

Editorial Guidelines

The manuscript must be double-spaced, on numbered pages, and follow this sequence: title page, full names of the authors (without professional titles), institutional affiliations, and correspondence. Use consecutive numbers to identify each author's institution.

The structure of original articles should be:

  • Title in Spanish and English (maximum 15 words or 75 characters)
  • Short title in Spanish
  • Structured abstract (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusions) in Spanish and English (maximum 250 words)
  • Keywords in both languages (3 to 5, using MeSH and DeCS)
  • Introduction
  • Methodology
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Acknowledgments
  • Updated references
  • Tables and illustrations (each on a separate page, with caption)

The Abstract should state objectives, procedures, main findings, specific data, statistical significance, and conclusions. Do not include references or undefined acronyms.

The Introduction should present the purpose of the study, relevant background, and the objective at the end of the section.

In Methodology, describe the selection of subjects, relevant characteristics, and methods used. For studies involving humans, include Ethics Committee approval and informed consent; for animals, indicate compliance with institutional guidelines.

Describe statistical methods in sufficient detail to allow verification of results. Define terms, abbreviations, and statistical symbols, and present quantified results with indicators of error or uncertainty.

In Results, present findings in text, tables, and figures, avoiding duplication of information. Highlight the most relevant aspects.

The Discussion should highlight novel aspects, relate the results to the literature, and conclude with the main contribution of the study or new hypotheses.

Reviews may be requested by the Editor or proposed by the authors and will be subject to external peer review.

Short reports of relevant findings and case reports of special interest are accepted. Letters to the editor should refer to recent articles and not exceed two pages.

Tables: Present double-spaced, without internal lines, numbered consecutively, and with a brief title. Explain abbreviations in footnotes. Do not include more than 5 tables, with a maximum of 5 columns and 8 rows each.

Illustrations (Figures): Must be professional, in JPEG or GIF format, numbered consecutively. Photographs must be black and white, high quality, size 127x173 mm (max. 203x254 mm), one per page, with title and explanatory legend.

Acknowledgments: Include collaborations, technical, financial, or institutional support, and possible conflicts of interest.

References: Must be recent (preferably from the last five years), numbered according to the order of appearance. Cite in the text, tables, and figures with numbers in parentheses. Follow the Vancouver style (www.icmje.org). Abbreviate journal titles according to Index Medicus (www.nlm.nih.gov). Abstracts are not accepted as references. Articles accepted but not published should be indicated as “in press.”
